To find out, read this illuminating article from today's Washington Post.
I was delighted to read that children are still reading the classics, like Green Eggs and Ham for the younger set and Charlotte's Web for those a bit older and To Kill a Mocking Bird. And my favorite, Bridge to Terabithia, was a fifth-grade favorite.
Are any of your favorite books listed in the article?
Thanks to Dan's Distractions for the tip.

No! My favorite book, As If Being 12 Isn't Bad Enough . . . was not listed. ;-) So, I'm not reading the whole article. There!
Donna!!!! I finally got a chance to read your new book. I would have done so weeks ago, but I was judging a book competition and I had to read a kabillion books. Yours was the first "voluntary" I read when I got through with that.
It is SO blasted good. I laughed out loud LOUDLY so many times. I loved Vanessa big. Her insecurities and adolescent neuroticisms were a riot! Brava! And,what an exciting story! An assasination attempt in a humorous story. Bold move, missy.
May I be the prez of you fan club??
High five all across the continent!

Whoops . . . my comment left off the "3/4", so I'll put it right here.
3/4- cos that's an IMPORTANT variable.
:-)

Well I've read "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" about a thousand times, but as an adult (to my daughter of course). And I'm now reading the Harry Potter series for the second time, as an adult (for myself). Maybe I'm trying to make up for my lack of reading as a kid? As a kid, I liked non-fiction mostly. One exception - the Hardy Boys series.
Mary, thanks for the generous words. I'm blushing. You can be prez of my fan club only if I can be prez of yours. Your novel was the perfect combination of humor and heartbreak -- a winner -- and I can't wait for the sequel!
Paul, thanks for sharing. We read about that mouse and his cookie about a zillion times, too. And Harry Potter is a big favorite in this house as well.
All best,
Donna
